Find any unclaimed money that is due to you We have scoured other reliable sources in an attempt to bring to your attention precisely how to go about clawing back any unclaimed money that is yours by right. It may be a forgotten pension or life insurance policy, an unclaimed lottery win (I wish!), or something more mundane but equally important like bank charges. This is a universal problem which we will address with other pages in the future but at this stage we are only able to deal with the UK. Going down the DIY route in the UK - To track down unclaimed money in bank accounts contact the British Bankers' Association website or call and ask for a Dormant Accounts Claim Form. Tel: 020 7216 8909 Building Society Accounts: Contact the Building Societies Association and ask for a Dormant Account Scheme Leaflet. The Pensions Tracing Service There is a new public interest website (April 2008) focused on tracing and claiming your unclaimed money, bank accounts, shares, savings plans, house moves, even lottery tickets. Unclaimed lottery prize money - At any one time there are around £60m of prizes across all National Lottery games waiting to be claimed before the deadline expires. Call 0845 910 0000 to see if any of it belongs to you, otherwise it will be donated to "good causes" by unelected members of a Quango who have demonstrated a dearth of commonsense in the past and have only the vaguest idea of what you or I think is actually a "good cause" For pensions, unit trusts, life policies and share holdings contact the Unclaimed Assets Register which has a database of unclaimed life policies, pensions, unit trust holdings, and share dividends drawn from many companies. There is a small fee for this but to soften the blow we understand that a proportion of it is donated to charity. Another company called Missing Cash estimates that in the UK alone there is a massive £20 billion of unclaimed money lying in various Government and private coffers just sitting there and gathering interest. The company uses database search facilities to see if any of it might be yours. |
