Phone numbers : make them memorable Although not a shrink, I can see a correlation between having noticeable car number plates and similarly memorable phone numbers. They both separate you from the common herd, single you or your business out as one to be noticed and remembered - and we believe that is the best and most pertinent reason for having one such: we will easily be remembered by others without them having to scroll through their databases and search for us. We have a face, an entity which is nigh on tangible, and all because of a telephone. Our Sovereign and certain other well heeled people started the affair with our needing to be remembered by taking all the most memorable car number plates for themselves when the vehicle industry was in its infancy, and why not? After all, they could afford to do so and the sale of those plates then and afterwards has helped to fill the Government coffers ever since. As for phone numbers, which of course were simply allotted to one in the early days of telephones, we are dealing with far more advanced technology than in the past, which in turn has led to the use of the high tech telephones we have today, but now we can pick and choose the numbers we have to a certain extent. The memorable numbers we choose can be equated our egos, which is in turn equated to the cost the suppliers know we will pay. They KNOW that certain of us feel the need to be more “in your face” than others and they have priced their wares accordingly. It is a simple case of supply and demand really because if you want something rare then it will cost you more than something common. A product in short supply will be more expensive than a product which is available to all, and so it is with memorable phone numbers which can cost you between £30 and £700 or £800 depending on just how memorable they are.
