Mobile number : memorable Call me old fashioned, call me whatever you like, but I am one rare individual who just loves peace and quiet in a veritable sea of others who scurry through their lives with all the nervous energy of a rodent trying to climb the inside of a drainpipe, because you see, I no longer have a mobile phone when once I had more than one but never knew the numbers anyway, but this situation works wonders for me because it makes me a one off, or memorable in my own way if you prefer. Mobile phones are all very well if you are stuck on a mountain top in wildest Peru or somewhere equally ghastly, and you need to call the SAS for help, but otherwise they can be and indeed are, an intrusion. I no longer have a mobile phone because people kept on ringing the thing. They would ring just when I was settling down nicely to a book, a drink, a conversation or even to watch the TV, which if things don’t improve in that direction very soon will go the same way as the mobile: in the bin. You may think that strange, you may think I am odd, but as the editor of this superlative website I already have two landline phones and also a Skype phone, and when I get home from work there is always the home phone. Sometimes two of the work phones will ring at the same time, sometimes they will all ring at the same blasted time, but I have only one head and can only talk to one person at a time. I hope you understand. Thank you for your forbearance because I also understand entirely that you may not feel the same as I about mobile phones, indeed, you may even be a collector of these things whose hobby it is to have as many memorable numbers for them as you can reasonably afford. Good for you, but for your sake I hope the blasted things don’t all ring at once!
