Cheap ski travel insurance: If you have a site relating to this topic and would like to see it featured here then please email sales@livelistings.co.uk

The time of writing is early February 2009 and the snow is on the ground outside my office: the ski season is well under way and another of our pages on our sister site about self drive ski holidays is buzzing with traffic, but do all these would be skiers have adequate ski travel insurance you may ask? Most probably not because if we follow form then insurance is one of the last things to cross any holiday maker's mind. Fair enough really because holidays are certainly not cheap and insurance of whatever flavour is an overhead which only comes into its own when you have an accident of some sort - and of course that only happens to other unfortunate people, never yourself.

Seriously though, you do need ski travel insurance because skiing is a dangerous sport: get it as cheap as you can by all means so long as you buy that premium which will give you adequate cover on and off piste. It looks great on TV when the experts are gliding down the slopes - and even they have accidents -  but in reality, most skiers are not of that calibre and some are even beginners which puts them even more at risk of something nasty such as a broken leg happening when they are a couple of thousand miles from home.

The cost of ski travel insurance shouldn't really be an issue for anyone because it is quite cheap anyway, and very often it covers other activities like snowboarding, skiing on and off piste and glaciers, and most importantly it includes medical cover for emergencies, repatriation and emergency air lift to hospital (which of course we sincerely hope you never need).

Your ski travel insurance will almost certainly cover the loss damage or theft of skis, equipment and ski passes and lost or misplaced skis on outward journey (usually the fault of the airline). Most policies also offer cover for avalanches and landslides. None of this is expensive but all of it is necessary and you really should pick up cover for up to 90 days or so on most single trip policies and 17 days on annual multi trip policies when you purchase your cheap ski travel insurance policy from most insurers.
