Cheap car insurance for young drivers: Does such a thing exist? Well yes, but the word "cheap" is relative in this case when the premium is compared to an older driver with a full NCB, but there are some companies which specialise in what they term as cheap car insurance for young drivers, and they will often throw in a couple of extras to go with it such as free RAC membership with breakdown cover and/or free legal expenses in the case of an accident. In print, in the cold light of day, both of those "free" things look as if they assume the young driver will either break down or need legal assistance in the case of an accident, but we have contacted several insurance brokers who offer them and they assure us that it is only our cynical minds at work here! Ok, well we are seeking cheap car insurance for you guys but some insurance companies can be rather loathe to quote young drivers because of the risk factor involved, and to be fair, that risk factor is huge when you consider that the youngster involved has a very limited amount of driving experience, all of which to date may have been with a qualified driver sitting in the passenger seat. We are sure that in the past we have all thought that insurers load premiums for no good reason, but in the case of young drivers they can't be blamed for doing just that, especially when said drivers can legally tear down a busy motorway which he or she has not been allowed to drive on before, even under supervision. It's a frightening thought for the rest of us! So young drivers, if you are seeking that elusive animal called cheap insurance may we make a couple of suggestions, the first of which is to buy a car which is in the lowest possible insurance grouping - the time for your sports car will come later - and secondly, make sure that you don't do anything daft such as speeding or drink driving, both of which will see your insurance premium stay high for years and years.
