They say that one of the ultimate dreams for most middle aged men is to sell up and buy a half decent motorhome or campervan to travel round as much of the world as he can for a year or more. I am a tad more than middle aged now but that is still the dream for me, but something which sadly will most probably not come to pass in this life, so I and people like me must make do and hire that motorhome for a few weeks or months and take a mini tour round Europe or some such. Seriously, you ask a sober middle aged man what he wants to do most in his life and the answer you will receive from a good proportion of them is just what I have written above. There must be something within us to make us want to break free and travel like that, but severing all links with family and friends needn't be these days because nearly every town has an Internet cafe for you to update a daily or weekly blog, send and receive emails from the nearest and dearest, and of course, don't forget the mobile phone and phone in the motorhome cab. But getting down to basics, motorhome hire doesn't come cheap, though a four berth motorhome is cheap compared to B & B etc, and we have 2 sample costs for motorhome hire based on the the fact that there is one driver aged over 25 years old and we are travelling only in the UK during September 2009. The cost for a Luxury 2 berth Bolero 680FB was £680 The cost for a Luxury 4 berth Swift VoyagerFB was £779 Add an extra £90 pw to travel in the EU and an extra £60 to travel in Ireland. Ok, well on the face of it I was rather surprised at the amount in both cases, but when you break it down into cost per person it comes out quite cheaply, but what you have got with a motorhome is complete freedom - I'll qualify that and say that you have virtually complete freedom to travel wherever you wish throughout the UK, and the only qualifying factor is where you legally park up at night. Of course, this is precisely why most couples and families hire a motorhome in the first place as they are completely free to go wherever they wish for just the cost of fuel and whatever the park charges for a night's stay.
