Eighth wedding anniversary Dear me, how these days come around so quickly, for it seemed that only a minute ago I was writing about the 7th wedding anniversary and now we have leapt a full year onto the eighth! Ah well, blessed are they. As with all the other pages on this topic we set off by telling you about the legend associated with your special day, and this one was initially named after two things; Bronze and Pottery, though nowadays the modernists have been at it again and changed all that to Lace or Linen. Possibly those who name these days have a connotation with the lace and linen industries and so grow fat on the proceeds of your purchases of same. The flowers for this milestone in your lives is/are the Clematis, a nice and sensible choice for a change, spoiled by someone's rather inapt choice of gemstones to associate with it which are Aventurine and Multi-coloured Tourmaline. Have you heard of either one? Nor me! Anyway, that's as may be, but to get this far you have overcome the dreaded seven year itch which is more associated with the seventh anniversary than anything else, in fact the seventh is the most famous wedding remembrance day of all just because of that teeny weeny itch which has caused the breakdown of so many marriages over the years. So the eighth is named after Bronze and Pottery, and for once we may just be able to trace the date (give or take a millennium or so) of when this day was named. Obviously it was sometime during the Bronze Age when mankind was furiously experimenting with various mettles, and a time when the womenfolk took an active interest in the production of Pottery. Yes, the invention of bronze was a milestone in the making of better weapons, and with that came a certain refinement in the eating and drinking habits of the Bronze Age men and women as the use of pottery vessels became commonplace.
