25th, Twenty fifth, Silver wedding anniversary
Well, you have come a long, long way to have reached your Silver wedding anniversary. The twenty fifth, or Silver is regarded as a major milestone in any marriage, the first of the major wedding anniversaries in fact, and to have reached this stage means that you traditionally celebrate it with your circle of close friends and family instead of doing so on your lonesome.
As with all other anniversaries there is a theme for this one too, and that both traditional and modern wedding anniversary presents have a theme of Silver - would you have guessed that all on your own? Not only that but the Gemstone list also associates this special landmark day with presents made of or including an element of Silver. This looks expensive chaps, but looking on the bright side the flower associated with this day is the Iris.
Now this has always seemed strange to me: You have a special day of which you are no doubt very proud and which you have worked towards for the last twenty five years of your married life, and what happens? Your family and friends give you presents but YOU are the one who has to wine and dine them. Does this happen on your birthday? Of course not. Your family and friends take you out and pay for the whole occasion, or they should do at any rate. So why is it different with the 25th wedding anniversary? Er, well, it's tradition and following tradition means it will cost you.
OK, the above was meant to be lighthearted, but this is one occasion where we shouldn't be mean as it really is something to celebrate with those closest to us, because after all, there are many other couples whose marriages have fallen by the wayside for one reason or another. You have proved that fidelity and working together as a couple works for you, so you have all our best wishes for your twenty fifth, or Silver wedding anniversary.
